Technical information about the Sturtevant home server
We no longer run this server in our home, but we did when we brought it online in March 1994. Boy,
was the Web small back then!
It was a simple setup, really.
Our complete costs to run this server are $100 per month:
-
US$79 per month, 24 hour dialup Internet access (SLIP at 33.6kbps uplink, 56kbps downlink)
-
US$21 per month, phone line (local call free, no per-minute charge)
I also have three other systems on a local Ethernet LAN and use this NT 4.0 machine as a router. All PCs share the same SLIP connection to the Internet.
Some Tech Notes I have written
Home Network: a diagram of our configuration
Router: How I got my NT workstation
configured as a router
Redial: How I got my server to reset
itself when the phone line drops
